Autobiography
I was born Lorrie Jo Brown, April 29, 1979 in Ashland WI. My parents and older brother of three years welcomed me to the world. Three years later we welcomed a baby boy, completing our family of five. I attended Tree Top Daycare until I went to Kindergarten in 1984. I grew up here in Ashland, at the same address, for 18 years. After high school I attended Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Ashland, where I obtained an Associates Degree in Occupational Therapy. My husband and I met at the age of 17 and were married June 14, 2003. In 2004 we built our home, here in Ashland, we were currently reside. On November 14, 2004 we began our family, welcoming a baby boy. Three years later on October 8, 2007 we welcomed our second little boy into our family. We completed our family on June 30th, 2009, welcoming a baby girl.
While working toward my Occupational Therapy degree, I began gaining experience in early childhood through my fieldwork placements. After I graduated I worked one year at the Ashland Family Forum Head Start. I then took a full time job in Occupational Therapy in a long term care facility where I worked for 6 years. During this time both of my boys attended daycare at Tree Top. In January of 2009 I became a stay at home mom. I established a routine with my kids, breakfast, reading, table time, snack, outdoor play, lunch , nap and so on. Perhaps this is where it all began. Although I truly enjoyed my time at home with my children I felt I lacked professional and social experiences with adults. I also wanted more for my children. I wanted them to have the same wonderful experiences I had as a young child. August 2010 I responded to a help wanted ad for Tree Top Preschool and Childcare Center. I felt this would be the perfect place for me, until my children where all in grade school. I soon realized my plan for short term employment was a thing of the past. This is where I belonged. I felt confidence, purpose and true enjoyment with my job. I began working there as a lead teacher for ages 2-5, August 24, 2010.
For the past year and half I have been working toward my preschool credential. This has been both an exciting and rewarding journey. I have gained a plethora of knowledge that I enjoy implementing with my children at home and at Tree Top. I hope this experience will help me explore the possibility of obtaining my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, as It has been on my “bucket list” to acquire.
My family and I thoroughly enjoy traveling and spending time with our extended family. We are very busy throughout the year with family events and extra curricular activities for our kids. I credit my family for my success thus far, they are my support and encouragement. With their continued support, I will reach my goal of receiving my Preschool Credential.
